A makeup designer has been branded a ‘Karen’ after she grilled a man about chalking a Black Lives Matter stencil onto his own wall. Lisa Alexander was filmed remonstrating with the man in San Francisco earlier this week, with supplier Birchbox since cutting ties with her brand after the confrontation was widely shared online.

Alexander and a man named Robert were filmed by tweeter Jaime Toons, who captioned the clip: ‘A white couple call the police on me, a person of color, for stencilling a #BLM chalk message on my own front retaining wall.

‘“Karen” lies and says she knows that I don’t live in my own house, because she knows the person who lives here. #blacklivesmatter.’

The clip begins with Alexander stood looking at Jaime while asking him ‘Is this your property?’ Asked why she wants to know, Alexander and her male pal Robert both chorus ‘Because it’s private property sir.’

Robert then adds: You’re defacing private property. You’re free to express your opinions, but not on people’s property,’ as Alexander looks on.

The makeup designer, whose company is called LA Face, then pipes up by saying: ‘Your sign is good. This is just not the way to do it.’

Jaime then appears to set a trap for the couple, saying: ‘If I did live here and this was my property this would be absolutely fine? And you don’t know if I do live here – ‘

Alexander interrupts by putting her finger on her chin and saying: ‘We actually do know. That’s why we’re asking. We know the person who does live here.’

Jaime then calls her bluff, asking her to either call her pal who lives in the house, or call the police, adding: ‘I’ll be more than happy to talk to them.’

The tension between Jaime and the couple continues to increase, with Alexander heard telling him: ‘Actually you are doing something illegal.’ The clip ends with Jaime again urging them to call the cops as they walk off, and telling the pair he’ll remain where he is standing.

Alexander has deleted her websites and social media in the wake of the incident, with beauty brand Birchbox saying it has cut ties with her as a result.

A spokesman said: ‘We condemn the actions of Lisa Alexander. We have not worked with LA Face for several years & as a result of the CEO’s actions today have officially cut ties with them.

‘We’ve removed their products from our website & will not be working with them in the future.’
