A white man is in police custody after he stabbed a black man multiple times after spewing racially insensitive comments in a bar.

Montana Amburn, 27, was arrested after allegedly attacking the 33-year-old black victim with a knife at Mickey’s Pub in North Texas on Wednesday.

Witnesses who were in the bar told police that Amburn made several racist comments about ‘White Power’ before pulling out a knife that resembled a switchblade. Management then escorted him out of the bar and he proceeded to fight with staff on his way out, according to CBS.

Once outside, Amburn was reportedly berated by bar patrons. He then allegedly approached the victim’s wife while brandishing the knife.

The victim apparently intervened and was stabbed twice – once in the hand and once on the elbow – as he defended his wife. Amburn reportedly fled after the attack.

The attack reportedly happened outside Mickey’s Pub in Mineral Wells, Texas on Wednesday. (Picture: Google Maps)

Several witnesses identified the attacker as Amburn and he was located by Mineral Wells police hours later. Officers noted that when they found Amburn, he was suffering a head injury.

The victim, who was not identified, was taken to a local hospital with life threatening injuries.

In the wake of the attack, there have been calls for Amburn to be charged with a hate crime, but police said, as it stands, there is the potential for his charges to be upgraded to a first-degree felony offense.

‘Mineral Wells PD has recieved a number of inquiries in regard to charging this individual with a hate crime,’ the department said in a statement.

‘In accordance with Texas Code of Criminal procedure, the designation of an offense being committed because of bias or prejudice is decided during the guilt/innocence phase of the trial, not at the time of the arrest.’

Amburn is currently being held at the Palo Pinto jail. His bond was set at $75,000.
